The number of backlinks to your web site is surely an important issue for nice search engine positioning and higher pagerank vaues. But be informed that not all the backlinks carry the same value for Google.

Google gives great value on the “niche” itself. A website about a niche topic is always much better than a common content web sites. Let’s say that you are trying to improve the PR value for your “wholesale t-shirt”business web site. If people just give you a link and use the anchor text like “visit my friend’s site by clicking here” or “click here” or “www.yoursitename.com” etc this will decrease the value of the backlink a lot. But if you get a backlink with the anchor text of “wholesale tshirt” or “t-shirts for wholesale” or “click for more wholesale t-shirts” etc, Google will see what you are marketing even before the spider comes and checks it.

This is a vet nice tip but again should be used with extra care. If you get too many backlinks with the same single anchor text, this may also decrease your pagerank value. I will add some more info on this in the coming weeks.
